For god’s sake! Now Window Vista is cheaper.

Microsoft said in a press conference that ‘In order to increase the demand of Windows Vista, we will lower the price of it.’ Windows Vista was launched last January and is sold at nearly 70 coutries around the world.

The Vista Ultimate Version has lowered its price from 399 dollars to 319 dollars. The Ultimate Upgrade, which is for XP users, has lowered its price from 259 dollars to 219 dollars. The price of Home Premium Version, which is the most popular, has been lowered from 159 dollars to 12 dollars. (The data above is the situation in the US. There might be some differences in other countries)

Also, MS said that they wills top selling Vista Ultimate Upgrade Version in emerging country’s market, taking in consideration that most of this version’s buyers are buying the Windows for the first time. However, they will start selling Home Premium and Home Basic upgrade versions.

In Korea the selling rate of Windows Vista is lower than 1%, so it might not affect the Korean Market. The overall selling rate is 10%.

What a day! Graduation Day is horrible!!!!

Some extreme behaviors are emerging at graduation day, making the day dangerous. These are the problems that is controversial. According to students they say that they do it ‘in order to better memorize their friends’. However, according to teachers and the police, they say that it is an irresponsible and irrational behavior.

<Wheat Flour Spilled over students>

Some irrational graduates spilled wheat four over their friends. Some even brought a whole package of wheat flour to spill over their friends. Although the graduates said ‘it is just for fun, and I might be able to memorize my friends better’, they should have thought about the harms they can give to another people. The teachers would have to clean the classroom which was covered with wheat flours. Also, the School Uniform, which is expensive, will be tainted, forcing the parents to spend money on school uniforms.

Although some students might think it as fun, the society, at least, won’t think that way.

New president’s Inauguration

Lee Myeong Bak, who has been cleared of all charges related to the BBK, (He has been accused of having manipulated the stock market) has been inaugurated as the official president of South Korea yesterday. He held his inauguration ceremony in front of the National Assembly building. He spoke for approximately 20 minutes, and many celebrities like Hines Ward, and Kim-Yun-A (Famous figure skating professional) attended. Roh Moo Hyun, who have led this country for the past 4 years, have also attended the ceremony. President Lee said absolutely held a long speech. Anyway, it is good that he is not the ‘president-elect’ anymore, and is a ‘president’, because typing ‘president-elect’ is harder than just typing ‘president’. (Is that funny? I hope so… I was just trying to be funny, and if not, that would prove that my joking skills literally ‘SUCKS’….) President Lee is scheduled to start his official work as the president, starting tomorrow.

Famous Internet Company Fails in Korea

Google, Second Life.. These are the companies that had a huge success on the global market. But, this might not be the case in Korea. These companies are failing, while local companies are having their good time.

<Portals are failing>

According to the Industry, Google Korea’s market dominance fell to 1% from 2% after the launch of Universal Search, a search type designed for Korea users. Before, they had confidence that the Universal Search will succeed. However, they didn’t- It made the situation even worse. Naver, the local portal site, has the market dominance of 79.54% in Korea. Main reason why Korean people do not use Google is because of its simple, 2-D interface, and lack of coloring.

<Second Life is Failing>

Second life was recently launched in Korea. However, they are also failing. The response of Korean Netizens are literally ‘quiet’. Why? Korean gamers are familiar with MMORPG games, with quests. However, Second Life doesn’t have a concept of quest. Why? Living a life doesn’t necessarily neeed a quest. Consequently, korean gamers started to think that it is boring. Another reason why Second Life has failed is because its complex member-enrollment system. People want things to be simple, not complicated. Also, the description about how to play the game lacks many informations, which makes it even more complicated. Furthermore, there have been countless Server Failure, which resulted in loss of credit of second life.

An official at the industry said “Even though they succeeded in the global market doesn’t mean that they will also succeed in Korea. In order to succeed in Korea, they should analyze the user’s preferences carefully, and design the whole system to match the demand’.

Next Generation DVD: Part 2

There has recently been a war between these two formats, which is called as ‘The battle of the Formats’. However, this ended resulting in Toshiba officially announcing that they will abandon the supply of their HD DVD format.

This war, as one can say, is the Information-Technology Era version of the VHS-Betamax war. People of certain age might knew what happened. Despite the technological advancement of Sony’s Betamax, VHS won. As we can see, the best is not always the winner.

Well, even though this war wasn’t about technology, as the two format’s technology was almost the same, Blu Ray won, because one of the most biggest movie company, Warner Brothers, which is a sister company of the renowned broadcasting company, CNN, has chosen to launch their titles in Blu Ray format. Warner Brothers once considered making a both-type compatible disc, but gave up that plan, and chose Blu Ray as their official format. Also, Sony’s Playstation 3 played a big role in the winning of Blu Ray. Sony’s PS3 has an embedded Blu-Ray player, which made people familiar with Blu Ray.

<Underneath is from CNN>

DATA DOCTOR’s PERSCRIPTION: Buy Bluray player, and if you already bought an HD DVD player, there is some hope because some of the titles that are in HD DVD format is in cheap price. But, try to buy a Bluray Player, as I said!!!
