Beijing Olympic… Today~~~~

Today marks the opening day for the Beijing Olympic. However, the Beijing olympic has a lot of problem. Environment is one. The environment of Beijing is so bad, that in some countries, they even made it mandatory for their players to wear masks at Beijing. Also, there are a lot of terror happening. This doesn’t mean that I don’t trust the China’s police, but it still worries me because there has been a lot of terror at china recently. Also, there has been some diplomatic problem between Korea-Japan (By the controversial issue about Dokdo(Liancourt Rocks), and Korea-North Korea (Because of the tourist killed in Keum Kang San, which is a popular tourist destination). However, despite these problem, the Chinese government is absolutely sure that they will hold a successful olympic. Good uck, and let us enjoy the world wide festival~ 

Korean Center- Candlelight vigil in Korea

As the candlelight vigil in Korea (yelling ‘NO US BEEF!’) gets more violent. there were a lot of accidents. Some police officers even got hit and kicked by several protesters after they were unarmed, while some people got hurt by some police who were trying to prevent the protesters from going to the Blue house, the place where the president works. Well, recently, the police started to use some strong weapons, such as water cannon, and the reaction from the protesters got even more violent. Some overturned the police bus using a rope, while there was a case where the police bus actually caught fire. There were also a case of protester firing fire extinguisher at the face of a police officer. Some police officer broke his leg or arm, and more than 100 are already in hospital.

However, things started to change, as the police caught several people who leaded the protest, and the protest is getting less violent.

New president’s Inauguration

Lee Myeong Bak, who has been cleared of all charges related to the BBK, (He has been accused of having manipulated the stock market) has been inaugurated as the official president of South Korea yesterday. He held his inauguration ceremony in front of the National Assembly building. He spoke for approximately 20 minutes, and many celebrities like Hines Ward, and Kim-Yun-A (Famous figure skating professional) attended. Roh Moo Hyun, who have led this country for the past 4 years, have also attended the ceremony. President Lee said absolutely held a long speech. Anyway, it is good that he is not the ‘president-elect’ anymore, and is a ‘president’, because typing ‘president-elect’ is harder than just typing ‘president’. (Is that funny? I hope so… I was just trying to be funny, and if not, that would prove that my joking skills literally ‘SUCKS’….) President Lee is scheduled to start his official work as the president, starting tomorrow.

Astronomical Amount of Money!!!!!

As you can see, Astronomical amounts of Money are spent in to the Campaign of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Hillary Clinton, who got a lot of financial support from the Wall Street said that she had spend 5 million dollars in order to win the Super Tuesday. She actually said “I did, I loaned the campaign 5 million dollars from my money, I loaned it because I believe in this campaign. and we were and I think the results last night proved the wisdom of my investment.” Also, she pledged her supporters to donate 300 million dollars. On the other hand, Barack Obama is gaining a lot of money. Obama said that they had collected 3 million dollars online yesterday. He also said that he had collected more than 27million dollars via internet last month. Recently, Obama has gone to Louisiana to have a campaign there in order to prepare for the upcoming caucuses held at Louisiana.

What caused Bhutto’s death?

There is a controversy over why Bhutto was dead : Because she was hit by a gun or by the after shock of the explosion. Recently, the London Police Investigation Team announced that Bhutto was killed by the after shock of the explosion, not by the gun that was fired toward her. They said in a report that was sent to Musharaff, the current president of Pakistan. This result is the same as the one in the report submitted right after the incident by the government of Pakistan. One official of London Investigation Team said “It is very likely that the aftershock of the explosion caused the collision between Bhutto’s head with the Hatch.” However, the PPP (Pakistan People’s Party) said that the result of this report is faked, showing the picture of Bhutto being killed by the gun.

ELECTION CENTER- Super Tuesday (DMC)

The fifth of 02/2008 will mark as one of the most influential day on the history of the 2008 election: the Super tuesday, also called as the ‘Tsunami Tuesday, because it is very influential.  21 Primaries are scheduled to be held that day. The number of delegates who have to decide is up to 1023, and that is why each candidates really wants a ‘happy super tuesday’.

So, who will win? Untill now, Hillary won at 4 states and Obama won 2 states respectively. The state Hillary won includes Michigan, New Hampshire, Nevada, and Florida while obama won at Iowa and North Carolina. According to CNN Politics.com, they said that it is hard to speculate who will win the Super Tuesday except Illinois, where Obama is projected to win, and in New York, where Hillary is a projected winner. New york have 232 delegates and Illinois have 153 delegates respectively. However, it might be to early to say ‘who has a happy super tuesday is the winner’. In case of the Democratic party, each candidate has to have 2025 delegates out of 4049 delegates. Also, we have to look at the movement of the Super Delegates. Untill now, Hillary won 232 delegates while Obama won 158 delegates.

Huh Kyung Yung is under investigation

Huh Kyung Yung, the former presidential candidate, who became really famous because of his bizzare pledge, is now under investigation by the prosecutor’s office. Seoul Local Prosecutor’s office said that even though the election wasn’t going on, he wrote an article to Sisa Josun and Lotto Newspaper that involved praising himself and some aggravated informations about himself. One official of the prosecutor’s office said that “He is apparently crazy, and have the potential to harm other people’s fame”.

Also, there are additional 2 things that are under investigation. One is the picture that Huh claims to take with president George W. Bush. And another thing is why he said that he was married to Park Geun Hae (The famous politician).

In contrary, Huh held a press conference and said that he didn’t know why the prosecutor’s office is reacting this way. He said “I have never tarnished other people’s fame and I have never something aggravating, and also, I have never violated the Election Law”.

Today marks the starting day for the ‘Korea Canal’ project, which is one of the primary public promise Lee (the president-elect) has made. However, there are some criticisms that the new administration is starting the project to fast. They argue that the new administration has ignored the official procedures before that should be taken before some new- blockbuster sized project is launched.

Today, the nation’s 5 biggest construction companies (Daewoo, Samsung, Daelim, GS, Hyundai) held a press conference saying that the 5 companies will cooperate with each other in order to implement the Korea Canal project.

Criticisms

1. 5 big companies cooperating with each other will be another step to eliminate small companies.

2. The canal project is going to fast. The official procedure was not taken.

The NEW Administration…

The new administration of Korea is to be called as ‘The Lee-Myung Bak Administration’. Some opposed the idea of calling the new administration that way. They argued that the new one should be called as the ‘Practical Administration’. The major reason why many people wanted to call the new admin. the ‘Practical Admin.’ is because of the tradition of Korea of naming the new administration. Kim Young-sam’s administration was called the civilian administration, as opposed to the former authoritarian administrations. Kim Dae-jung’s administration was called the people’s administration and the Roh Moo-hyun’s the participatory administration.

 Despite the opposition of many people, Lee Myung Bak decided to call his administration using his name. There has also been many people who thought that this tradition is an arrogant movement. They argued that Korea should follow the trend of ‘Stading by the president’s name’. For example, the current USA administration is called the Bush Administration. Therefore, to call the new administration the Lee Myung-bak administration is more practical than to call it the practical administration.

Before this tradition was made, the Chun Doo Whan Administration was called the fifth republic while the Ro tae Woo administration was called the sixth republic. It was the former president Kim Young Sam (YS) who started to name the administration. Well, this trend is going to end due to Lee’s Decision…
